Özet
This study aims to reveal the architectural characteristics of traditional Kütahya houses through an extensive field survey and typological analysis. Forty-nine houses that have not previously been subject to detailed architectural documentation or scholarly analysis were documented in situ with respect to their plan layouts, sofa types, material characteristics and façade arrangements. The collected data enabled the development of a systematic classification addressing spatial organization, construction techniques and façade organization. This classification established a comprehensive database of Kütahya houses, enabling comparison with other traditional houses across Anatolia and thereby allowing the identification of both shared characteristics and the distinctive features. The findings demonstrate that Kütahya houses align with the fundamental features of the traditional Anatolian domestic architecture, in terms of inner and outer-sofa plan typology, timber-framed construction technique (hımış), and façade typology. Moreover, Kütahya houses also exhibit distinctive spatial and structural variations shaped by the region's geographical and climatic conditions, such as rare open-sofa type, extensive use of adobe, and specific insulation details. By systematically evaluating the traditional houses of Kütahya, this study provides a comprehensive contribution to the documentation and understanding of regional architectural diversity within the Anatolian housing tradition.
