In the short term from proclamation of the Republic to 1950s, it is observed that architectural style efforts were consecutively experienced in Turkey; from the architectural style called as the Ottomanism to modern architecture adopting international canonical approach and to the nationalization efforts trying to find the intersection of modern with the local. According to Bozdoğan, there is a dangerous side to denominate and divide these styles, which tries to progress by intensively criticizing its predecessor into "three phases": Ignoring that there is the impulse and motivation of nationalism and historicism in the country which is provided by “building a nation”. In this study, it is tried to question the problem of nationalization of the modern style through aforementioned “impulsive” and “motivating” forces during the era covering the foundation years of the Republic called as the Early Republican Period. While, examining this, the question whether the modern one can settle with the national one on permanent basis is tried to be kept alive.

* Here, it is implied that the Ottomanism which we frequently come across in historiography in the Republican Period is called as the First National Style, the period where examples of the International style are observed as the New Architecture or the Revolution Architecture and the period with nationalism and endenization called as the Second National Style.
