Studies stated that the visual conditions in educational buildings play an important role in the efficiency and health of the
occupants (students). However, it is not given sufficient importance to ensure compliance with visual comfort conditions in
the design of the buildings. This study aimed that determining the visual comfort conditions and making suggestion for
improvement in an existing educational building. Classrooms with different transparency ratios on the south side of the same
building were selected. Measurements and surveys were conducted since visual comfort conditions are considered both
objectively and subjectively. Determination and evaluation of visual comfort conditions in terms of daylight and integrated
lighting were made according to TS-EN 12464-1 and TS-EN 17037 standards. It has been determined that the classrooms with
high transparency ratio are not suitable for visual comfort conditions and the brightness levels in front of the window are
quite high. Considering the effect of using daylight on energy consumption, suggestions have been developed in order to
provide visual comfort in classrooms and to benefit from daylight.
