Real-Time Monitoring is
widely used in Geotechnical Engineering for understanding soil behaviour more precisely. Shape Accelaration Array (SAA=Shape
AccelArray) gives advantage to measure spreaded deformation accurately along a
string. The SAA is a sensor array based on MEMS accelerometer measurements of
angles relative to gravity. Typically
the sensors are positioned in 50 cm long rigid segments which are connected by
composite joints that prevent torsion but allow flexibility in two degrees of freedom.
Three-dimensional (3D) ground deformations per segment and 3D accelerations per
Octet (4 m intervals) could be measured with sensor array which is formed by
50cm rigid segments (8 segments forms 1 Octet) and flexible joints. A Real-Time Monitoring Programme utilized during
Full Scale Foundation Test detailed in this study. During Foundation Load Test on a hydraulic
fill material the vertical (surface) and horizontal (along the depth)
deformations monitored with SAAs. Because
the SAAs are relatively new technology their performance was evaluated relative
to conventional portable inclinometer probes during a full-scale foundation load
test. The results from these tests
indicate that the shape arrays can provide accuracy comparable and exceeds to
that from an inclinometer, for static loading conditions. In the scope of Full
Scale Foundation Test; SAAs (Vertical and Horizontal deformations),
Inclinometer (Vertical and Horizontal Deformations), Piezometers (Pore Water
Pressure), Total Pressure Cells (Transferred Load) sensors utilized for 4 m x 4
m loading area. The whole data logged
with 1minute interval. The whole measured data in line with each other and
provide good information for evaluating the bearing capacity and
load-deformation pattern under footing.
