The future smart grid and cities are socio-technical systems that should be developed to be efficient, sustainable and resilient. In order to achieve this, a major social transformation is required. The active involvement of the society, especially governmental and non-governmental organizations, representatives of industry and business, entrepreneurs, regulatory agencies, universities, research institutions, schools, local administrations, associations, and the media is required for such transformation.
