Özet

Social studies; It is a multidisciplinary learning area that aims at realizing the social existence of the individual by developing knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to changing world and country conditions. Geography discipline has an important place in the social studies course which consists of the merger of many fields of social sciences. Geography education within the scope of Social Studies students to gain geographic thinking, natural and human environment to recognize aims to enable them to use the elements and establish healthy relationships with their environment. The level and presentation of the geography subjects discussed in the Social Studies textbooks in transferring these goals to the students is extremely important in terms of ensuring the active participation of the students in the course. In our study, the geography subjects in the 4th grade textbook of Social Studies were evaluated by adequacy of geography subjects for their appropriateness.Qualitative research method was used within the scope of our research and the research findings were obtained by document analysis. According to the findings, ”People, Places and Environments““Global Links” and “Culture and Heritage” were determined as three learning areas within the scope of the new Social Studies 4th grade social studies textbook. As a result, although there are some deficiencies in terms of visuallity and effectiveness of 4th grade Social Studies textbook, it has been concluded that it is successful in introducing students with geography discipline.
