Abstract

This article investigates what "biography" means and what it means to be a writer of biography, from a partly existentialist, and a partly hermeneutic view point. It is conducted in the context of a number of questions, such as: "why do people want to understand each other?", "what is the nature of biography: is it history or literature?" In this article, which is titled "Biography: Journey towards the Other", the focus is on biographic values as knowledge value, art value, ethical value, existential value and educational value.
