The chemical synthesis and characterization with spectroscopic, photophysical and electrochemical properties of hexyl benzoate substituted metallo phthalocyanines were reported. The new phthalocyanines have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, mass spectra. Electrochemical and in-situ spectroelectrochemical (SEC) characterizations of CoPc (2) and MnOAcPc (3) are performed to illuminate redox properties, electron-transfer mechanism and optic properties. Results of characterizations, CoPc (2) and MnOAcPc (3) are given a reversible character and metal-based and phthalocyanine ring-based redox couples. The sharp color changes recorded during the reduction and oxidation processes of these complexes indicate that they have the potential to be used in optical applications, particularly as electrochromic materials in display technologies and smart glass applications.
