On the Adaptation of a Constrained Optimization Method for Bound-Constrained Contrast Source Inversion

Özet
We present a bound-constrained formulation of the Contrast Source Inversion (CSI) method by
incorporating the Frank–Wolfe algorithm to enforce a priori bounds on the contrast. The proposed approach
exploits the simplicity and projection-free nature of the Frank–Wolfe scheme within the CSI framework.
For comparison, a nonlinear transformation approach previously introduced for gradient-based inversion
methods and the commonly used CSI strategy of replacing out-of-bound contrast values with the nearest
bound at each iteration are also considered. The performance of these approaches is systematically evaluated
through numerical simulations. The results indicate that the Frank–Wolfe-based formulation provides stable
and accurate reconstructions over a broader range of contrast values compared to the other boundenforcement
strategies.
