Prof. MERYEM HAYIR KANAT

Meryem Hayir Kanat graduated from a Bachelor of Geography at the University of Istanbul between 19841988. There she also pursued her Master's degree at the Institute of Social Sciences, between 1988 and 1991 with a focus on human and economic geography. Her master thesis focused on the subject: "The Effects of E5 highway to the surrounding settlements between the districts Sina-Silivri Istanbul". Then she completed her doctorate between 1995 and 2002 in the Department of Geography and Education at the University of Mannheim. Her dissertation topic was "Development of the industrial and residential areas on the shores of the Gulf of Izmit and their location problems". During her doctoral studies, she worked as a geography teacher at the Department of Education. After receiving her doctorate Meryem Hayir worked between 2004-2011 as an assistant professor (Assist. Prof. Dr.) at the University of Sakarya in the Department Geography with a focus on human and economic geography. Here she took an active role in the establishment of the Department. In February 2011, Ms. Hayir concluded her doctorate and began with her work as a lecturer in the Institute of Social Sciences at the Yildiz Technical University in January 2012. In June 2021, she was appointed as Prof. Dr. at Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Education, Department of Social Studies Education. Prof. Dr. Meryem Hayır Kanat works; she focuses on metropolitanization and changes in the metropolises of developing countries. Hayir Kanat continues to work on the use and change of natural recreation areas in the Istanbul metropolitan area.
