This chapter demonstrates several reflective, data-driven, and research-informed activities to help teacher educators familiarize student teachers with the current state of English academic writing. Hands-on corpus-based activities can provide a kind of exposure that goes beyond what is provided in instructional materials and sources of reference for the English language. Students can identify a wide variety of usage patterns in the corpus data and perhaps look for ways to do so in the future as well. As much as the user interfaces of the corpora are rather user-friendly, depending on students’ background and familiarity with such tools, teacher educators can adjust the level of guidance they would like to offer to ensure the effectiveness of the activities. Student teachers’ varying interpretations of the publicly available corpus data can be encouraged so that they extend their analyses into different areas that can inform their future pedagogical practices.
