Dr. Erişen completed his undergraduate education in Gazi University Education Programs and Instruction Department. He started his academic career as a research assistant at Gazi University in 1992.

He worked as a researcher in the field of educational sciences in England between 1993 and 1994. He earned his master's degree from the Department of Program Development at Ankara University in 1997. In 2001, he earned his PhD from the same institution and department.

He served as a doctoral professor at the Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Technical Education, Gazi University, between 2001 and 2005. He served as an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Vocational Education at Selçuk University between 2007 and 2013. During this period, he held academic and administrative positions, such as vice dean, department vice president, department chair, pedagogical certification program coordinator, YÖS-Overseas student selection and placement unit coordinator, National Productivity Center representative, and strategic planning board member.

He began working as an Associate Professor at the Educational Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction Department of the Yıldız Technical University in September 2013. Between 2015-2016, he served as the vice dean of the faculty, and between 2016-2017 he served as the General Secretary of the university. In August 2017, he was appointed as a full professor in the same department. He served as a university senator between 2021-2024. He has been the head of the Educational Sciences Department since 2019. He has conducted many academic studies and taken part in projects on quality and accreditation in education, teacher training programs, vocational and technical education programs and curriculum development
