Nalan Turna has received her Ph. D. from Binghamton University/Binghamton NY in 2006. Her thesis concerns "The Everyday Life of Istanbul and Its Artisans, 1808-1839". She has published a number of articles on the social history of 19th-century Istanbul, including plague epidemics and the relationship of janissaries to the artisan world; she has written a book on Ottoman internal passport/visa system. Most recently she has explored the holdings of the Ottoman archives concerning the Ottoman world of entertainment. At the moment, Nalan Turna is an Assoc. Professor at Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul.
