Assoc. Prof. Sırrı Emrah ÜÇER

Sırrı Emrah Üçer graduated from Vefa High School in 1999 and earned his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economics (1999-2003). He later completed his master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul University (2004-2008) and obtained his PhD from Boğaziçi University’s Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History (2008-2018). Üçer began his academic career in 2009 at Yıldız Technical University’s Department of Economics and was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Economic Thought by the Turkish Council of Higher Education in 2023. His research focuses on development economics, the Turkish economy, social policies, and infrastructure policies, and he teaches various courses on these subjects at Yıldız Technical University and Işık University. His publications primarily address the historical development of Turkey's communication policies, infrastructure investments in the Ottoman Empire, and the political economy of the telecommunications sector in Turkey. Üçer is also a member of the Economic Thought Society and serves on the board of directors of the History Foundation. He is on the editorial board of Toplumsal Tarih Akademi, published by the History Foundation, and curated a special issue on infrastructure networks. Üçer continues to research the social history and current political economy of infrastructure networks, particularly focusing on their transformation at the intersection of citizen, state, and market relations.
