Prof. Selim Hilmi ÖZKAN

Selim Hilmi Özkan is Professor of History at the Yildiz Technical University. He is currently working on the Ottoman diplomacy and Ottoman foreign policy. His most recent publications include “Reasons for Migration of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire before 1915”, African and Asian Studies, 19, 3, (2020), 282-305; and “Arms Smuggling across Ottoman Borders in the Second Half of the 19th Century” Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies, 18, 3, (2016), 297-312. He is currently working on a book project: Migrations and Migration Routes from Cebel-i Lebanon to United States of America End of Nineteenth Centuries. Also he is included a resercher working group on COST Action "CA20107 - Connecting Theory and Practical Issues of Migration and Religious Diversity", and "CA18129- Islamic Legacy: Narratives East, West, South, North of the Mediterranean (1350-1750)" and "CA18140 - People in Motion: Entangled Histories of Displacement across the Mediterranean(1492-1923)"

I held a post-doctoral position at the Texas Tech University Lubbock, TX, USA from 2014-2015 and University of Wisconsin in 2012. My research has focused on Ottoman diplomacy, Ottoman foreign policy and history education.
