Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hacısalihoğlu, born in Tonya/Trabzon/Turkey, studied Turkish history in Ankara University and History of Eastern - and Southeastern Europe in Munich/Germany. He wrote his master thesis on the Image of Greece in Turkey (Türk Ansiklopedisi) and his PhD Thesis on the Young Turks and the Macedonian Question. He participated in researchs projects South East European Toponymies and Comparison of Empires in Germany and lead the project on the Image of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey in current history textbooks in the Balkan and Black Sea Countries in Turkey. He is the founding director of the Center for Balkan and Black Sea Studies (BALKAR) at Yıldız Technical University Istanbul. His main research interests include history of the Balkans in the 19th and 20th Century, Russia and the Caucasus and the Black Sea region (including the history of the Notables/Ayans in the Black Sea region). He published books, edited books and articles on different topics related to the Ottoman Empire, Balkan history and the Black Sea region. He is the editor in chief of the Journal of Balkan and Black Sea Studies (since 2018).
