Dr. Metin GENÇTEN received his bachelor's degree from Anadolu University Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry in 2010, and his master's and doctorate degrees from Anadolu University Institute of Science / Department of Chemistry in 2013 and 2017, respectively. Dr. Gençten, who started his academic career as a research assistant in 2010, worked as a research assistant at Anadolu University and Ordu University. In 2018, he worked as an assistant professor at Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Dr. Gençten, who received the title of associate professor in 2019, has been working as an associate professor in the same department since then. Dr. Gençten has also been serving as deputy head of the department since November 2020. Dr.Gençten, who carries out his studies with the Gençten Research Group, of which he is the founder, carries out his studies in the Advanced Material Technologies Laboratory for Energy Storage Systems (ENDEP-LAB), of which he is responsible.

Gençten focuses his work mainly on energy storage systems, Li/Na ion batteries, supercapacitors, lead acid batteries, redox flow batteries, recycling of waste batteries, advanced material technologies, nanomaterials, metal oxides/sulphides, graphene-based materials, phosphorene, molybdenum disulfide, electrochemistry, material characterization methods, conductive polymers and two-dimensional material technologies. Dr. Gençten, who offers new approaches to the literature, especially with his studies on the integration of two-dimensional materials into new generation energy storage systems, has mainly focused on the production of sustainable and high-performance energy storage systems. In addition, we also carry out studies on the integration of battery waste and different industrial wastes, which are important problems of today, into new energy storage systems through recycling. Dr. Gençten believes that recycling has a significant potential in terms of sustainability.

Gençten worked as an manager in 3 TÜBİTAK projects and as a researcher in 2 projects. He has 13 manager and 7 researchers positions in projects supported by higher education institutions. Believing in the importance of University/Industry cooperation projects, Dr. Gençten took part as an manager in 2 projects and as a researcher in 5 projects. Dr. Gençten, who has 20 national patent applications, has 9 registered patents. Dr. Gençten, who has more than 60 scientific articles in reputable scientific journals in his field, has 1546 citations according to Google academics, 1329 citations according to Scopus and 1292 citations according to Webofscience as of 10.09.2023, and his h-index is 26. Having served as a referee in many scientific journals, Dr. Gençten has editorial duties in national and international journals.

Dr. Gençten, who has been ranked first in the department and first in the faculty in his career, has received awards from many different national and international scientific organizations.

Dr. Gençten is married and is the father of a daughter.
